Story:
The story timeline take place before the story of Final Fantasy VII. The Shinra
Electric Power Company possesses an organization of soldiers with powerful
combat ability known as SOLDIER, and amongst them, the elite are known as
SOLDIER: First Class, inspiring respect and envy from the masses.
|
Among the masses
is Zack a young 2nd Class SOLDIER yearning to be First Class. He works hard
at his daily duties with his senior and mentor, Angeal, a First Class and
an excellent leader. As the story progress, many new and known characters
will be introduced such as Cloud, Tifa, Aerith and the most popular villain
in roleplaying game history: Sephiroth.
One particular new character is
Genesis, a first class member of SOLDIER that went missing without a trace
along with many other 2nd and 3rd class SOLDIERs during the Wutai war. |

|
The Shinra
Company's top management assessed the situation and decided to send out
SOLDIER in order to bring an end to the war quickly and clarify the scandal,
and so, Angeal and Zack, as well as Sephiroth, whose name would come to
be known throughout the world as a hero, were dispatched to Wutai.
Artistic
Elements:
Crisis Core is by far the best graphical game known in the hand held console
Playstation Portable. The game's spectacular cutscenes have an immense effect
on the emotionally resonant story. The mix of prerendered cinematics and
in-engine cutscenes successfully add a major plus to the overall presentation
both story and gameplay alike. With famous cutscenes like the Nibelhiem
Mako Reactor it is a definite plus for the overall game.
Music:
The game's soundtrack was released on October 10, 2007, covering 55 songs
across two discs. The music was composed by Takeharu Ishimoto, with a few
tracks by Kazuhiko Toyama. The soundtrack also includes remixes of various
music pieces from Final Fantasy VII composed by Nobuo Uematsu. Square clearly
did an incredibly job on Crisis Core voice acting. You can clearly differentiate
the young arrogant Zack Fair that doesn’t focus with the later on
matured Zack voice. Lastly the Theme Song performed by Ayaka titled Why was a huge hit and it brings the entire effect on the storyline plot.

Gameplay:
Crisis Core has an action- and menu-based element gameplay. The new battle
system clearly is different from Final Fantasy VII. However it’s not
bad nor good, it’s just different. Another feature is the Digital
Mind Wave, or "DMW", that revolves around a series of reels at
the upper left corner of the screen which spin continuously as long as there
is SP left to consume. Each rotate independently and upon lining up the
three reels of the same character and value will result in a power-up or
a "Power Surge!" during the combat. Zack will then perform various
limit breaks depending on the character that appear on the reel. It may
seem confusing at first but once you get a hang of it, it will be extremely
addictive to battle. The player
will have full control over Zack when moving around, and can rotate the
camera with the left and right triggers. The only flaw I notice is that
the camera angle notion sometimes frustrates me because it won’t turn
when Zack is near a wall.
In additional
to the gameplay, a feature call Materia Fusion is introduced where Zack
can take two Materia and combined them together to create stronger Materia. This is a new and very interesting feature to play on. Summons is back and
this time round the summons animations are all prerendered cinematics. Yes,
when the |

DMW hit’s 3 summon face eg: Ifrit, the prerendered cinematics
will roll. So it’s pretty cool to see a prerendered cinematics in
between the battle and it’s another huge plus to the gameplay as well.
Outside of
the main story, there are plenty of side missions to keep you occupied.
It takes an average of 20 hours to complete the main story game with maybe
additional of 10 hours more on all the missions. Overall the gameplay is
relatively both easy as well as hard depending on how much you want to cover
the game. |
Replay
Value:
With the New Game plus and a game in Playstation portable I see no reason
why the game shouldn’t be replayed. Plenty of missions will be there
for gamers to complete as this added another major plus towards the Replay
Value of the game.
Value:
Crisis Core is a “must get”, “must play” and “must
own” game if you’re a PSP owner or simply a person that play
RPG or action genre game. Another great additional towards the value of
the game is the emotional storyline that revolves around each character
and lastly it is a prequel to one of the most top rated and famous RPG game
of all time the Final Fantasy VII.
Overall:
Crisis Core will be considered as one of the best game Square developed
in the PSP in years to come. It is a definite "must play" for
every PSP owner and every fan of role-playing game alike. After playing
everything, you may find yourself saying: “Embrace your Dreams.”
